Accessorizing Spring Makeup Trends

Should your makeup affect what jewelry you choose?  We gathered some makeup trends that we’ve  spotted on the streets of NYC this spring, and we’ve paired them with complementary jewelry. Playing with makeup can be fun, and some of these looks are bolder than others. Like with jewelry, size and body type don’t matter. So there are no boundaries, and the possibilities are endless…

The Hot Cherry or Coral Lip

Timeless, but we never tire of this feminine look.

1. Add in a splash of color and make those lips even more glam. *Turquoise Chandeliers and Mixed Nugget Necklace

2.  Keep it classic and reminiscent of a grander era. *Vintage Gold Locket and Black Dot Studs

3. Go sleek and edgy to have a day-to-night look. *Vintage Silver Ball Danglers and Antique Silver Collar

The All-Natural and Dewey Skin Look

The perfect look for hot summer days.

1. Go a bit more boho in the summer and let nature inspire your look.  *Gold Holly Leaf Earrings and Tibetan Turquoise Pendant

2. Keep the clothes as simple as the makeup and let bolder jewelry do the talking. *Blue Druzy Chandeliers and Gold Brushed Link Necklace

The Cat Eye

Always a great way to make any look sexier.

1. Make the jewelry as edgy as the eyes. This is a great evening look. *Mixed Metal Gold Links Necklace and Black Bejeweled Tear Drops

2. Cat eyes can also be work-appropriate. Just keep the jewelry classic.  *Dangling Silver & Gold Discs Earrings and Mixed Metal Beaded Chain Bracelet

The Color Block Nail Polish

Who doesn’t like to get a good manicure? Why not get a bit more adventurous?

1. Since she has kept the make up natural and dewey, these contrasting color-block nails are stand-outs. They need bold jewelry to showcase them.  *Gold Vermeil Adjustable Ring and Gun Metal Link Bracelet

2. This is a new twist on the classic french manicure, and with the cherry lips as a contrasting color, we’ll keep the jewelry in solid metals. *Vintage Silver Points Ring and Leather Silver Nugget Wrap Bracelet

3. To keep up with the straight lines of her cat eyes and the striking black and yellow nails, the Black Bobble Ring  was an obvious choice. The Gold Bangles add a little movement and soften the look.

Mixing It Up With KTC

Here are some of our favorite combinations of KTC. There are no rules to mixing and matching your jewelry- in fact, we change it up daily. Why not come up with interesting combos of your own? Or even better, come have fun finding your best layered look with us at this season’s street fairs!

How do you mix it up? Do you layer with a meaningful heirloom? A rocking watch? Or the candy necklace from your daughter? Show us how you wear your KTC and we’ll give you a $10 gift card. Send us a picture at info@ktcollection.com or post it to our Facebook.

Accessorizing Bold Prints

Now that spring is in full bloom we can’t help but notice smashing prints galore on the streets of New York City. What to do about jewelry when you mix prints and bold colors? The trick is don’t be afraid to accessorize. Finding just the right pieces will only make your look even better.

Nadja from Germany came in to the RSPOP in March looking chic, colorful, and sporting a fantastic striped top mixed with contrasting colors. (and we love the knee-high socks too…)

She went straight for the druzy-stone jewelry and a one-of-a-kind  Rock Candy Ring. We thought the Bejeweled Teardrop Earrings looked best and added a bit of sparkle.

Nadja inspired us to look for more great looks on people who aren’t afraid to shy away from color. Thanks to some fantastic fashion blogs, we found some pics straight off the streets of great cities around the world. Only problem is they seem to have forgotten to wear jewelry…

Can you say colorful!?! She has got a-whole-lot-of-look going on, so we chose some simple and classic pieces that wouldn’t compete with her vintage-inspired look. The patina of the Antiqued Silver Ball Earrings and Sterling Silver Adjustable Ring add a bit of interest without overwhelming her clothing.

The neutrals and muted patterns are reminiscent of 1940′s Hollywood. Choosing the Gold Druzy Stone Chandelier Earrings was a no-brainer. The extra long Semiprecious Mix of Browns necklace ties it all together, and the Cream Bobble Ring adds just the right amount of supplementary glamor.

Here is to being inspired for summer. We thought she could use some delicate-colorful-jewelry to meld into her exotic look. We gave her an ensemble of the adjustable Turquoise Bead Necklace, the Multi-Color Purple Round Chandelier Earrings, and the Vintage Gold Points Ring.

The feminine floral pants (which we keep seeing on the street) mixed with neon pink
and a mod-cut blazer look great. We would just add the Yellow Beaded Teardrop Earrings and clean-lined but demure Brushed Gold Oval Bracelet.

How can you ever go wrong with hot-pink? And this day-to-night look needs some rocker-chick accessories to balance out her amazing shoes. Add the Rock-n-Roll Pyrite Necklace, the Silver and Hematite Fringe Earrings, and the Vintage Silver Baby Spoon Ring — and this daring outfit becomes even better.

If mixing bold pieces is too much for you to pull off, one bold blouse is all you need to keep up with this trend. Just don’t forget colorful jewelry. Add the Cranberry St. Tropez Chandelier Earrings, the Gold Links Necklace, and the Scarlett Bangles to one like this and voila!

Don’t miss our new weekly posts via our social networks called, “Where Is The Jewelry?”. We will pick a look we like and accessorize it with the perfect KTC pieces. Behind the Scenes of a KTC Photoshoot

No stint at the Roger Smith Hotel is complete without coordinating a video shoot with John Knowles of Panman Productions. What a way to wrap up our fantastic stay at the RS Pop Shop in February and March!  As usual, Melissa Gonzales of Lion’esque Media was part of it. Not only is she the style-maven of Lionesque Media, but she also knows how to work it behind the camera. We were also lucky to have talented photographer John Birdsong working the lens.

Here are some of the outtakes featuring the KTC girls. As usual, there were no dull moments and there was a lot of laughter. Choosing the jewelry for each shot was half the fun!  Living up to John’s vision for the shoot is also always an adventure. Luckily his assistant Ingrid David was there to keep things running smoothly and everyone on track.

We look forward to showing you the final result. Videos and more photos to come!

And just in case you missed it, here is the KTC brand video John Knowles did in 2011.

2012 Spring Fever: Bright Colors Are In!

It’s official. Spring has sprung. What does that mean? BRIGHT COLORS!

We are loving the vibrant hues we keep spotting on the NYC streets; it seems there is no better way to celebrate spring. Challenge: What is the best way to accessorize bold color combos? Here are three options: match, create contrast, or complement the color with solid metals.

Match:

It’s nice to pick pieces that have tones of the same color in your outfit. The Blue Fabergé Egg Earrings pull the look together with delicate shades of blue without “over-matching.” The Gold Martini Bracelet matches the gold finish in the earrings and brings out the bright yellow of the skirt.

Contrast:

If you are going to go for contrast, choose one piece that is big and bold; a statement-maker. The Turquoise Ipanema Earrings pop against the pink and red in this ensemble. Then tone down any additional accessories to avoid over-doing it. These Bone Bangles add a subtle touch.

Complement:

If you are wearing several colors or loud prints, stick to solid metals. We decided that the straight lines of the Gold Mirror Earrings, the Long Gold Nuggets Necklace, and the Vintage Gold Points Ring reflect the right amount of shine without distracting from the outfit.

What do you think? Let us know what you would choose!

Save on KTC with Friends From Work!

Lovely office-mates Cindy and Luiza discovered they both had a thing for KTC when they BOTH showed up at work wearing our classic Medium Gold-Filled Square Wire Hoops. They came together to tell us the tale over a glass of wine at our “After-Work-Wine-Wednesday” event at RSPOP.

Their story inspired us to encourage you to sneak away from the office with your colleagues. (shh…we won’t tell…..) We’ll give you $5 off when you bring friends from work any time of the day.  And they’ll get $5 off too! All you have to do is introduce us.
(9-9 pm on Lexington Avenue between 47th and 48th Street).
*This deal cannot be combined with any other deals.

As our “After-Work-Wine-Wednesday” series continues throughout the month of March,  we have had fun catching-up with many new and familiar faces while serving wine and running a weekly raffle to win $50 in KTC jewels.

Check out what Lindsey picked out with her winning raffle ticket!

Lindsey, who is one of our favorite regular customers used her certificate towards the Silver Nugget Necklace she had been eying for a long time. She couldn’t resist the new Vintage Silver Ball & Hematite Chain Earrings as well (available at RSPOP and soon to be online). In fact, they seemed to be the most popular piece of the night!

Party On: KTC RSPOP Shop Opening Party February 8th

The KTC RSPOP Shop Opening Party February 8th was a total success. What a way to start our February and March stay at the Roger Smith Hotel! Thank you to everyone who came.

There was flowing wine, a lot of laughs, and great conversation. Many of our long-standing KTC friends were there, and passer-bys came in from the cold to join the festivities and see what the fuss was about. We loved seeing old and new friends and showed off some of our new designs that are exclusive to  RSPOP.

Lucky Lindsey Utrata won $100 of jewelry in our raffle, and customers walked away with complimentary silk scarves. (Which are now available online in case you missed the party as long as supplies last.)
